Question: My child shies away from contact on the basketball court and is not as aggressive as we would like? What can we do?
Coach Terrence Jones of Ultimate Champions – the home of San Antonio Youth Basketball:
There are different situations for different kids, but for most of them. contact is mental. Kids think that being aggressive is being malicious. Our society has taught them that… but basketball is a contact sport. We do drills to make them get used to contact, and eventually enjoy the contact, and lastly actually intiating and creating contact. We need to eradicate the mindset and get them loving contact. Personalized training is part of overcoming this attitude.
